LEWISTON — The Women’s Center has announced its programming for July.

Wednesday, July 1, at 10 a.m.: The art class will include scrap-booking and card making.

Thursday, July 2, at 10 a.m.: Participants will play improv theater games.

Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m.: The art class will include rock painting.

Saturday, July 4, at 12:30 p.m.: Klara Tammany will lead a workshop called “Shake it off!” Dogs relieve stress by full body shakes. Humans have a lot of other options including mindfulness meditation, intentional breathing, exercising and chanting, and the workshop will explore them.

Mondays at 10 a.m.: The weekly writing workshop meets.

Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.: Participants may bring their own hand-sewing/knitting/crochet projects to the Center and join others while working, and they may learn to make Wisdom Boxes and Gratitude Beads.

Tuesday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m.: Sonia Turgeon will lead a Spa Day Giveaway. The focus this time will be on homemade facials. Prizes of special beauty products will be given away.

Thursday, July 9, at 10 a.m.: Participants will play charades.

Thursday, July 9, at 12:30 p.m.: “What’s Cookin’?” classes will make homemade granola.

Wednesday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to noon: Sarah Shepley will teach bookmaking. Participants will create and take home small gift books.

Wednesday, July 15, at noon: Paul Drowns from the Nutrition Center comes for the Peasant Pantry Prep group. Participants prepare a simple, one-dish meal that will be served Thursday, July 16, to the wider community. This month’s menu will feature something Greek. Serving time Thursday is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and reservations are appreciated. There cost of the meal is by donation. The income is split between the team members who prepared and served the meal.

Tuesday, July 21, at 10 a.m.: “What’s Cookin’?” classes will make strawberry soup and papaya bread.

Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Cindy Leavitt, the “Tooth Fairy,” will offer free teeth cleaning. Sign up is required in 45 minute slots. The “Tooth Fairy” will return to the Center in August for two more days.

Thursday, July 23, at 12:30 p.m.: Participants may share and write poems during a poetry party.

Tuesday, July 28, at 10 a.m.: Participants will play bingo.

Monday, July 28, at 12:30 p.m.: The Book Club will meet, with Ann Auer leading the discussion. The group is reading “Seedfolk,” a story about community gardening and transformation.

Tuesday, July 28, at 1 p.m.: Betsy Ware will give 15-minute Reiki sessions. Participants should sign up for these events at the Center.

Wednesday, July 29 at 10 a.m.: The Art Van will visit the Center.

Wednesday, July 29, at 12:30 p.m.: The Center will host the July birthday party.

Thursday, July 30: The monthly women’s clothing give-away will be open all day.

The Center is continually in need of donations of hygiene items to give away. Needed are full-size, unopened, basic items such as shampoo and conditioner, tampons and pads, deodorant, toothpaste/brushes. Unopened smaller sample sizes will also currently be accepted to be used for outreach packs. This is a regular ongoing need and contributions of these supplies is very much appreciated.

The Center’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It is closed on Fridays for July and August. For a full calendar of events see the Center’s website. All women are welcome, programs are offered free of charge and no appointments are needed. Oatmeal breakfasts are available daily, and the Center has a shower available for use.

Volunteers are needed to lead workshops about making and using homemade cleaning materials, workshops on juicing and karaoke. To volunteer, contact the Executive Director, Klara Tammany.

The Center for Wisdom’s Women is a sacred and safe place that supports and empowers women.
