AUGUSTA (AP) — A bill to fix a typographical error that caused utility regulators to cut funding for energy efficiency programs is moving forward in the Maine Legislature.

The bill was given initial approval without a roll call vote in the Republican-controlled Senate on Monday. The Democratic-led House later gave the bill final approval. It still needs final approval in the Senate.

The measure would fix an error in a 2013 law that caused the Public Utilities Commission to set one source of funding for Efficiency Maine Trust at $22 million. Lawmakers had intended the funding to be set at about $60 million.

It faces an almost certain veto from Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who opposes the bill because it would increase the surcharge on ratepayers’ bills.
