BRUNSWICK — Vida W. Hunnewell, 85, of High Street, Lisbon Falls, died Sunday, May 24, at Parkview Adventist Medical Center, after a sudden illness.
She was born in Greeley, Colo., on July 27, 1929, a daughter of the late Brice and Esther (O’Connor) Wilkinson.
Vida was an elementary school teacher in Lisbon Falls for many years. She loved her job and her students. She was a very active member of Lisbon United Methodist Church, serving on the board and volunteering her time for several years. She also enjoyed volunteering at Habitat for Humanity and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a strong advocate for gay rights, being a member of PFLAG and Maine Speakout Project. She loved gardening and sharing her veggies and wintering in Lehigh Acres, Fla. She also was a strong supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
She leaves her son, Randall Hunnewell and his husband, Maurice Breton, of Litchfield; two sisters, Della Starbird of Oxford, and Eileen Potvin and husband, Richard, of Harpswell; two brothers, Brice Wilkinson and wife, Bahieh, of Minnesota, and Ben Wilkinson and wife, Susan, of Nevada; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Continho of Nashua, N.H.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis Hunnewell; and a sister, Pamela Mazzio.
