1922 – 2015
NORWAY — Carlton F. Barker Jr., 92, of Stoneham, died Sunday, April 26, at Norway Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born in Stoneham on Oct. 1, 1922, the oldest child of Carlton Sr. and Ineze Matheson Barker. He married Mertice Berry on Aug. 1, 1943. Junior, as he was always called, worked for Perham’s at the Bumpus Mine, Grover Lumber Co. and on the road crew for the state of Maine for many summers. He established C. F. Barker Jr. Excavating in 1965.
He was a member of the East Stoneham Congregational Church and the Knights of Pythias. He enjoyed skiing on both water and snow, golfing and traveling throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Knight Riders Snowmobile Club in Stoneham. He is survived by four children, Timothy of Waterford, Danny and his wife, Geneva, Thomas and his wife, Nora, and Andrea Fillebrown and her husband, “Gus,” all of Stoneham; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hubert and his wife, Esther, of Salem, N.H., and Durland and his wife, Cheryl, of Stoneham; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, “Tice,” of 65 years; two brothers, Dighton H. and Dighton O.; and a sister, Euleita Whitney.
