PORTLAND (AP) — Two analysts say the average price of gas in Maine will fall to the lowest point in a decade this summer.
The analyses say the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas will fall below $2.50 during the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The average gas price has not been that low since 2005.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1yZikIV ) reported a recent U.S. Energy Information Administration projection places the nation’s average summer gas price at $2.45 per gallon. Maryland-based GasBuddy predicts the price will be $2.35. GasBuddy says Maine’s average price for gas is $2.40, in line with the national average. Maine’s average was $3.63 per gallon a year ago.
The analysts say low summer gas prices will likely help tourism-dependent businesses and areas.
