TOPSHAM — Topsham’s American Legion Post 202 will celebrate its 50th anniversary by hosting a rededication ceremony on Saturday, April 4. The post will be officially renamed in honor of Sgt. Corey Edwin Garver, a soldier from Topsham who died on June 23, 2013, in Afghanistan.

Garver was a member of Bravo Company, 1/506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, and was killed when his patrol came under enemy fire in the Zormat district.

This will be the first Legion Post named for a fallen hero of either Iraq or Afghanistan in the state.

The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at 79 Foreside Road. Rep. Jared Golden of Lewiston and several former and present American Legion National Commanders are among the guests scheduled to speak. Light Refreshments will be provided.

The post will also host an evening dinner and live music from the Vinyl Fossils, with tickets costing $5 and proceeds going to help various veterans’ programs.
