1979 – 2015

JACKSON, N.H. — Samuel Danforth “Sam” Moore, 35, of North Conway, N.H., died Monday, March 9, at Wildcat Mountain in Jackson, N.H., while taking part in the 12th Annual 100,000 Vertical Challenge charity event for Make-A-Wish of New Hampshire.

Sam, son of Stephen Robinson Moore and Elizabeth Kotlewski Ayotte (formerly Elizabeth K. Moore), was born at Southern Maine Medical in Biddeford. He graduated from Brunswick High School and in 2003 earned a Bachelor of Science degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred University, New York.

Before graduation, Sam enjoyed a full-time paid internship at Turbine Airfoil Coating and Repair in Middletown, N.Y. With his new skills and relevant experience, he returned to Maine where he worked for Sigco Inc., a glass and architectural metal fabricator/distributor in Westbrook. For the last three and a half years Sam’s career found him at Ceramco Inc., a manufacturer of custom technical ceramics for aviation and aerospace, scientific instrumentation, energy, textiles and personal care products, in Conway, N.H.

Sam was a child who loved adventure and the outdoors. He excelled in school and played Little League baseball and junior high football. Sam skied throughout his life. While In high school, Sam poured his strength, agility and intense focus into USSA Eastern Region ski racing out of Saddleback in Rangeley through the Maine Alpine Racing Association.

Fiercely independent, Sam’s smile and his zest for life were contagious. Free from pretense, he was the real deal. With compassion for all living things, he chose a raw, vegan lifestyle. Often dressed in a flannel shirt with several bananas in hand, Sam will be remembered for forever seeking new places with his dog June as his companion.

He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Wallace and Mary Lou Moore; maternal grandparents, John and Pat Kotlewski; as well as an aunt, Barbara Kotlewski Jackson.

Surviving are his dad, Steve Moore of Old Lyme, Conn.; mother, Beth Ayotte of Kennebunk; uncles and aunts, Jeffrey and Hillary Moore of Chester, Conn., Paul and Sarah Gleason of Old Lyme, Conn., Pat and Julia Stands of Voluntown, Conn., Bruce and Ruth Ann Abrahamson of Rexford, N.Y.

Cousins include Allyson and Jimmy Gleason, Emily, Erica and Peter Moore, Polly Sferes, John Sferes, Scott Stinson, Ann Stinson and Linda Kotlewski Bird.
