FALMOUTH — Sen. Angus King is praising a conservation organization’s new solar panel system that he says will help reduce energy costs and the state’s reliance on oil.

The independent senator attended the unveiling of the new solar project at the Maine Audubon Society’s headquarters in Falmouth on Friday.

His office says the 42 kilowatt project is the largest array of solar panels ever installed by a Maine conservation organization. It has 144 total panels and is expected to supply nearly 80 percent of the Maine Audubon’s electricity.

The equipment and installation of the project was paid for by Moody’s Collision Centers, which is getting federal income tax incentives. Revision Energy installed the project in January.

King says this project should be a model for others across Maine and the country.
