Community Credit Union also hosts their own fundraising events such as the Battle of the Boats Bass Fishing Tournament and the Community Poker Run. The proceeds benefit the Maine’s Credit Unions’ Campaign to End Hunger. Since 1990, when the campaign began, Maine’s Credit Unions have raised and distributed more than $5.3 million to help end hunger in Maine. One hundred percent of all the money raised by credit unions stays in Maine and goes directly to hunger organizations and local food pantries. The recent success of the fundraising events has allowed the Credit Union to make donations to Auburn PAL, Senior’s Plus Meals on Wheels, Trinity Jubilee, Good Shepherd Food Bank’s Backpack Program, St. Mary’s Food Pantry and the Turner Food Pantry.
Another major fundraising effort that the members of Community Credit Union and staff support is the annual Diaper Drive. Each year from Thanksgiving to mid December, 50/50 raffle tickets are sold to members and the public and the 50/50 proceeds along with staff donations are used to purchase diapers for Androscoggin Head Start. Several years in a row over $1,000 in diapers (35-plus boxes) have been purchased and delivered to Androscoggin Head Start’s B Street Community Center.
