PORTLAND (AP) — There’s a good chance this February could end up being one of the coldest in the state of Maine.
The National Weather Service says since observers started keeping records in Portland in 1941, it’s been the coldest February so far, with temperatures averaging 11.6 degrees below normal. But there’s still over a week to go, and a bit of a warm-up expected Sunday.
It’s gotten above freezing only three days this month.
The coldest temperature ever recorded in Portland was 39 degrees below zero on Feb. 16, 1943.
