ROCKWOOD (AP) — Authorities say a North Carolina man was killed in a weekend snowmobile crash.

Wardens on Monday identified the victim as 42-year-old Arthur Meuse; his home town was not available. Investigators said he lost control on a snowmobile trail on the east side of Mount Kineo and was ejected into the path of an oncoming snowmobile, which ran over him.

Meuse died at the scene.

Officials said Meuse was riding with a group of friends when the crash happened Saturday afternoon. The Maine Warden Service is continuing to investigate.

Mount Kineo is on an island in Moosehead Lake.
