NEW GLOUCESTER — Selectmen on Wednesday rescheduled a public hearing on an easement for the original Mayall Road to March 2.
The hearing was canceled Monday because of the snowstorm.
Lawrence and Theresa Gillespie petitioned the town to release the public easement, giving them roughly 1,000 feet of the road that bisects their property.
Mayall Road was realigned when the Maine Turnpike was constructed. About 1,000 feet of the road was discontinued years ago, but the town never released the public easement on it.
If the board approves the petition, a vote by townspeople is required.
In other business, the board’s ongoing review of the town’s personnel policy drew comments from employees.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Steve Libby said the comments need further review and will be compiled into four categories: errors/omissions, general question comments, legal questions and policy issues.
Selectman Josh McHenry and Board of Selectmen Vice Chairwoman Linda Chase will review the policy questions before the board reviews the document March 2. The legal questions will be reviewed by the town attorney. The board will review the entire personnel policy and determine if changes are needed.
Employee comments highlighted limits for accrued vacation time, overtime, sick leave, grievance procedures, probation, classification of employees and political activity. The board will seek a second opinion on the document from Maine Municipal Association.
In other business, selectmen wrapped up their reviews of the proposed 2015-16 budget Saturday.
The Budget Committee, which advises selectmen, will begin reviewing it Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Finally, the board said it is interested in getting more information to participate in a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day in Gray in August.
