MEXICO — Two Mexico residents suffered head injuries when the vehicle they were riding in and another car collided Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Route 2 and the Wal-Mart entrance road, police said.
Julie Gaudet, 43, and her son, Dylan Gaudet, 18, were taken by Med-Care Ambulance to Rumford Hospital, Mexico police officer Rob Drouin said.
Drouin said the accident happened at about 4:40 p.m. during rush-hour traffic. He said Dylan Gaudet was driving his mother’s 2008 Toyota Scion xB west and turning left off Route 2 into the Wal-Mart entrance and collided with an east-bound 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Earl Couture, 43, of Carthage. Couture was not injured.
“Dylan told me he didn’t see the other car,” Drouin said. The young man was driving on a learning permit.
Mr. Couture “tried to stop, but the Pontiac slid on either ice or snow in the road,” Drouin said.
The impact crushed the Scion’s front passenger door and mangled the front passenger side of the Pontiac. Both vehicles were towed. Mexico police do not provide damage estimates.
Passengers not injured were Ashley Gaudet, 24, of Mexico, in the Sicon car and, in the Pontiac, Ethan Couture, 13, Ella Couture, 11, and Victoria Averill, 13, all of Carthage, Drouin said.
No charges will be filed, he said.
Mexico firefighters directed one lane of traffic past the accident for 30 minutes as Med-Care Ambulance crews tended to the injured until Bisson & Hebert could tow the vehicles. Firefighters removed debris.
