NEW GLOUCESTER — High school students from Gray-New Gloucester High School earned the title of Best-in-State in the third Verizon Innovative App Challenge, a national competition in which students design a mobile application concept that addresses a need or problem in their local schools or communities.

The students developed an app concept called Fit Food 4 Kids+, which combines a personalized fitness tracker, nutrition tracker and sleep tracker, as well as additional health information in an app designed for ages 13-18.

Their goal was to create an easy way to track and maintain healthy habits for an overall heathy lifestyle. Learn more about Fit Food 4 Kids+: http://youtu.be/2bNASGhx0kA

“This contest has exposed students to new skillsets such as learning to collaborate, negotiate and best of all, problem solving,” said Michael Murphy, New England spokesperson for Verizon Wireless.
