TURNER — Police said a local teen was injured Tuesday morning when his car struck the tires of a tractor-trailer, went airborne and bounced off the hood of another rig on Route 219.

Lt. Glenn Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that Derek Plourde, 18, was traveling west in a 2014 Mazda II when it crossed the centerline and struck the tires of a tractor-trailer headed east and driven by Aaron Walker, 27 of Plymouth. The car went airborne and bounced off the hood of a tractor-trailer traveling east and driven by Glenn Lunstrom, 57, also of Plymouth.

The car landed in the wood line.

Holt said when Lunstrom saw the car go into the air he thought it was going to come through his windshield.

Walker and Lunstrom were not injured in the incident.

Plourde was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was treated for injuries, Holt said in a news release.

The Mazda was demolished.

The trucks, a 2012 and a 2013 Volvo, are owned by H.O. Bouchard of Plymouth. One had about $3,000 damage and was driven from the scene; the other had about $8,000 damage and was towed, Holt said.

Holt said traffic on Route 219 was down to one lane for about an hour while the accident was investigated and cleaned up. The accident occurred at about 10:13 a.m.

It is being investigated by Sgt. James Jacques of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department. He was assisted by the Turner Fire Department and Turner Rescue.
