Neighborhood watch planned for Jan. 22
AUBURN — There will be a Neighborhood watch at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Tailgate Gourmet. All are welcome. The event is sponsored by the Auburn Police Department and United New Auburn.
Senior Citizens Cribbage League
LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Jan. 15 were: first, Arnie Burgess and Richard Cloutier; second, Leo Bergeron and Steve Agurkis; third, Mickie Farnum and Roger Labbe; fourth, Dennis Gosselin and Don Haley; fifth, George Bussiere and Henry Maheux.
The next game will be played at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22.

Mary Dempsey to speak to Auburn Art Club
AUBURN — The members of the Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church.
The speaker will be Mary Dempsey, who will speak about the amazing happenings at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing. This should be a very interesting meeting and she will surely accept questions from the audience.
The chairman for this meeting is Janet Sullivan, who will be assisted by Elinor Brockway and Linda Lelansky.
‘Stitch in Public’ day celebration, exhibit
AUBURN — Members of the Southern Maine Chapter of The Embroiderers’ Guild of America invite the public to the Auburn Public Library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, for their “Stitch in Public Day” celebration.
Members will be on hand demonstrating and exhibiting their gifted and amazing needlework. The Embroiderers’ Guild is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to the study and preservation of the art of embroidery. If you are interested in embroidery or just want to see the many types of needlework the guild members do, stop by for a visit.
This is a free program and is open to the public. The program will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room.
Mattress fundraiser sale for Lisbon music
LISBON FALLS — Lisbon Music Department will hold a Mattress Fundraiser Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in the Lisbon High School gymnasium, 2 Sugg Drive.
Quality, brand-name mattresses will be for sale at 30-60 percent off retail. All sizes will be available, and styles such as pillow-top, orthopedic, latex, memory foam and gel beds.
All mattress are brand new from the factory and come with a factory warranty. There will be over 20 different models to choose from.
Free local delivery will be offered, or $50 off purchase if mattresses are picked up.
Cash, check and credit cards will be accepted. Proceeds benefit the Lisbon School Music Program.
College-planning workshops offered
LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free “Essentials of College Planning” workshops for adults 19 and over at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays, Feb. 4 and 18, at Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way.
