Bowling
Maine State Junior Gold Bowlers held its fifth tournament for the season at Sparetime Recreation in Waterville on Saturday. This month’s tournament winner is Darren Forkey Jr., who bowled a 1042 total pins for five games and earned him a qualifying spot in the 2015 Junior Gold Championships in Dupage County, Ill.
Also qualifying were Brandon Dubuc (985 pins) and Nate Harzewski (911 pins). Two other bowlers had over 1,000 pins: Jakob Harzewski (1028) and Corey Ridley (1014).
Forkey bowls out of Sparetime Recreation in Waterville. Dubuc is from Auburn and is currently bowling for University of Pikeville. Harzewski bowls out of Family Fun Bowling Center in Bangor. Ridley bowls out of Meadow Lanes in Wilton.
A number of bowlers had high games: Dubuc 268; Forkey 267, 245; Ridley 255, 220;Harzewski 226; Paul Hinkley 243; Orrie Kosier 228; Chris Haney 222. There were 21 games over 200 in all.

9th Annual New England Pond Hockey Festival
The ninth annual New England Pond Hockey Festival will be held on Friday, Jan 30 through Sunday, Feb 1, in Rangeley.
Events start with the first of two parties: The ever-popular teams and volunteers get-together at the Rangeley Inn, (the festival’s headquarters), on Friday evening, Jan. 30. The festival culminates with a five-division championship games Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1.
Last year’s festival attracted over two dozen teams competing in four divisions: Men’s Open, Men’s Masters, Women’s Cameron and Women’s Just for Fun. This year a fifth division has been added — the Wide Open (Co-ed, ages 21 years and up).
The team registration deadline is January 10, 2015. Team organizing Captains are urged to go to the festival website www.newenglandpondhockey.com for tournament details, rules, and to download a registration packet to be completed and submitted by the deadline date. Baseball trip
WATERVILLE — The 14th Annual Fantasy Baseball Trip will be held this summer, Wednesday, July 29 through Sunday, Aug. 2.
The trip is organized by Vaugh Clark, who has 13 years experience running baseball trips.
