LEWISTON — An early morning fire Friday damaged a downtown apartment building and displaced approximately a dozen people.

The fire at 168 Bartlett St. was reported at approximately 1:40 a.m. Flames were visible when firefighters arrived at the 2½-story structure.

According to an officer at the scene, first responders were concerned with the building’s close proximity to two other larger apartment buildings at 166 and 170 Bartlett Street. The structure on fire sits off the street behind the two other apartments.

Firefighters declared the fire under control at 2:20 a.m.

There were no immediate report of injuries.
