CARTHAGE — Thirty residents approved a $198,467 budget at the annual town meeting Monday evening at the Town Office, Selectman Stephen Brown said Tuesday.
The budget was $2,029 more than last year, Brown said.
“None of the dollar amounts were changed, and we had quite a bit of discussion about the different warrant questions, which is good,” Brown said.
Among the articles approved was borrowing up to $100,000 to buy a firetruck.
“All but one person voted in favor of borrowing the money to get a new firetruck,” Brown said. “Right now, the next step is for our treasurer to look into what the bond interest would be, and have our Fire Department pick out a suitable truck.”
Tax Collector and Town Clerk Linda Berry, Selectman Banaman R. Weston and Treasurer Nancy Blodgett were re-elected. All were unopposed.
Brown said selectmen recognized resident Dot Mason, who celebrated her 95th birthday on Monday.
“That makes Dot the oldest person in town, so we wanted to make sure she was recognized and celebrated,” Brown said.
