“It was more of a team effort, my teammates made it easier for me to score out there,” Dyer said. “They really set me up out there. We worked a lot of that stuff in practice. It really feels good for it finally paying off.”

Coach Craig Latuscha thought the team came out a little slow in the first period.

“The first period we didn’t have our legs, we weren’t ready, we weren’t ready to play our game,” he said. “The second period we came out a little better and the third period, we came out flying and ultimately put the game away.”

Dyer gave the Eddies the early lead 8:40 into the game as he received a pass from Cade Chapman.

The lead didn’t last long as Yarmouth scored 43 seconds later when Cooper May found the back of the net.

The assists went to Caleb Morrison and Patrick Grant.

“I thought we played fairly well in the first period,” Yarmouth coach David St. Pierre said. “As the game wore on we broke down defensively and it kind of cost us.”

The teams traded goals once again as Dyer notched his second of the night while shorthanded 1:18 into the period with Chapman picking up his second assist of the night.

Yarmouth responded with 65 seconds later when David Tureff notched an unassisted effort.

Dyer completed his hat trick 8:59 into the period with Liam Benson notching the lone assist.

“We’ve been working (the puck) low on the pads, so it comes out for a rebound,” Dyer said. “(Yarmouth goalie Victor Wakelin) was putting the rebounds like we have been practicing.”

EL went into the locker room with a 4-2 lead as Ryan Raby scored a power play marker with two seconds remaining in the period. The goal was setup by Ben Steele and Dyer.

EL was 1-for-2 on the man advantage while Yarmouth was 0-for-3

“Again, that was another defensive breakdown, we had a chance to clear the puck and we fed it back to their point,” St. Pierre said of the goal at the end of the period. “They kept it in and were able to convert.”

The Red Eddies quickly jumped out to a 6-2 lead early in the third with goals from Liam Benson 56 into the period. The assist went to Raby. Ben Steele picked up the sixth goal 1:33 into the period. Dyer and Raby picked up the assists.

“We needed to keep digging deep, keep working getting some pucks to the net,” Latuscha said of his message in the second intermission. “Continue to get more pucks to the net and generate more shots. Continue to work hard and play to a higher level.”

Tyler Couture stretched out the lead 7-2 with 7:52 left to play in the game with Benson picking up the assist.

Zach Gosselin made 16 saves in the victory while Wakelin made 11 saves in the losing effort.
