More than 40 students from Phoenix Karate Academy in Auburn’s kids class participated in their monthly belt test. Students were testing for various ranks. Two students tested for the rank of Jr. Black Belt. Jr. Senpai Lucas Fisher and Jr. Senpai Brogan McCormick led the class with physical fitness requirements of 250 jumping jacks, 25 push-ups and 50 Sit-ups. They also lead the entire class through basic blocks, strikes and kicks using proper Japanese terminology. The entire class demonstrated all of their requirements in kata (forms) and self-defense to each respective rank. The exam was completed with students testing for their green belt. Pictured are a group of 40 students as well as McCormick and Fisher demonstrating the hard work and dedication required to be a Phoenix Jr. black belt. Phoenix Academy of Martial Arts at 1225 Center St. in Auburn is hosting an informational session for homeschooling parents and their children on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. The session is free. Parents will learn about the new program that Phoenix Karate will be offering twice a week for homeschoolers.
