LIVERMORE FALLS — The Regional School Unit 73 board Thursday night established a seven-member subcommittee to develop a teacher evaluation tool. The panel includes administrators, teachers and board members.

Superintendent Kenneth Healey said the district is late getting started on the project, which is due at the state Department of Education in Augusta by June 1. If a district does not devise its own evaluation tool, one created by the state will be used.

Once a teacher evaluation tool is created, work will begin on a similar one to evaluate administrators.

Next month, the board will begin evaluating Healey, who started his job on July 1.

The board also learned that a visitor at the football game between Spruce Mountain and Wells high schools in Jay last week was injured.

“A Wells spectator fell through the bleachers and likely suffered a concussion,” Healey told the board. “We have been in contact with Wells High School.”

That section of the bleachers has been taped off and a thorough inspection of the bleachers is expected to take place soon.

High school Principal T.J. Plourde said the school’s ski team will practice at Titcomb Ski Slope in Farmington this season. In the past, the school used the slope at the Kents Hill school.

Plourde said the cost for using Titcomb is $400 for eight practices, compared to $500 for six practices at Kents Hill. He said students will also arrive home sooner because Farmington is closer.

Jay Elementary School Principal Chris Hollingsworth said he and Livermore Elementary School Principal Kevin Harrington are working to establish a report card that uses a standards-based measuring tool. The new system will go into effect in the next school year.

Harrington told the board that 37 area veterans shared lunch with Livermore Elementary School students Nov. 6 and 7 in celebration of Veterans Day.

“We were full of happy folks,” he said.

Spruce Mountain Middle School Principal Scott Albert received permission from the board to take about 115 eighth-graders overnight to Boston in late May or early June.

The school’s annual craft fair, which helps fund the trip, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15.
