MEXICO — The Mexico Police Explorers will face off against several retired Boston Red Sox players during a benefit basketball game at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in the Mountain Valley High School gymnasium, police Chief Roy Hodsdon said Thursday.

Hodsdon said that the Mexico Police Department teamed up with East Coast Marketing Group to organize a basketball game between the Mexico Explorers and retired Red Sox players as a means of raising money for the Explorers program.

“East Coast Marketing took care of all the organizing,” Hodsdon said. “The way it works is they set up the event for us and attempt to collect donations for the event, and after the event, we cut them a check for their work, and the rest of the money gets deposited in an account for the Explorers program. They’ve helped us with a lot of events over the years, and they do a good job.”

Hodsdon added that he reached out to criminal justice students from Husson College to play in the game because he did not have enough Police Explorers for a full team.

“Those students want to be police officers, so it’s a good fit for them to help us out,” Hodsdon said.

The retired Red Sox players will sign autographs and photos during the game, Hodsdon said.

Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the event, or by visiting the Mexico Police Department at 134 Main St.

Hodsdon said a donation is required to receive a ticket.

“We don’t have a set price,” Hodsdon said. “We’re just asking people to provide whatever they can.”
