MEXICO — The Board of Selectmen will continue discussion on Planning Board duties at its meeting Wednesday, Nov. 12.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office conference room.
The issue was brought to light after fire Chief Gary Wentzell asked Selectman Reggie Arsenault, who is also a Planning Board member, whether the Planning Board had discussed the possibility of amending the town’s referendum town meeting ordinance to split the public safety budget into police and fire department budgets.
Arsenault said he and the other Planning Board members agreed that it “wasn’t our job to do that.”
Selectman Albert Aniel said he thought the Planning Board had been asked to do more than normal, and he wanted to see it used for primarily land-use issues and issuing permits.
Madigan agreed to research other towns and look into what state law recommends.
Among the other items on the agenda are:
* Discussion on Thanksgiving turkey gift certificates.
* Discussion to appoint a Planning Board alternate member.
* Resignation of Mabel Merrill from the Board of Appeals.
* Executive session for police union negotiations.
