LEWISTON – John and Jane Chester of Lewiston recently observed their 50th wedding anniversary.
The couple was married on April 24, 1954, and they have four grown children, John R., Michael, Jeannette Fusaro and Susan Haldeman. They also have three granddaughters and four grandsons.
Both are members of Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. They moved to Lewiston from Wiscasset in October of 2003 so that they could be nearer their daughters’ homes in Lewiston and Lisbon.
Mrs. Chester is a registered nurse and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland. She was a delivery room supervisor and has been employed in the past years at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Knox County General Hospital in Rockland, Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Bath Memorial Hospital in Bath and St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, N.J. She is also a professional piano player and previously had her own music business and played piano in the Ragtime Rascals Jazz Band of Doc Grosser for three years.
Mr. Chester graduated from Arlington Academy in Arlington, Vt., in 1948. He served four years in the U.S. military and is a Korean War veteran. In 1955 he enlisted in the Maine State Police and is a graduate of the Maine State Police Training Academy. He first was assigned to patrol duties as a state trooper in the South Berwick, Berwick, North Berwick and Eliot areas and later was assigned to patrol assignments in the Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, Southport, Westport and Whitefield areas. He spent a total of 29 years in a wide spectrum of law enforcement employment activities at just about every level of operation. He has taught various law enforcement training courses at each of the 123 law enforcement police departments in Maine. He later worked at Brunswick Naval Air Station, where he worked for 16 years as an occupational safety and health specialist.
