LEWISTON — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is headlining a fundraiser in Maine for Republican Gov. Paul LePage next week.

LePage Political Adviser Brent Littlefield said Tuesday that Christie will attend a lunchtime fundraiser for the governor in Lewiston on Oct. 14.

The event is set for the Royal Oak Room, a renovated train station on Bates Street.

Christie, the chairman of the Republican Governors Association, has already made two trips to Maine to support LePage in his tough re-election fight.

The group has spent more than $2 million in the state and released several television ads applauding LePage and attacking Democrat Mike Michaud.

Polls show LePage and Michaud in a tight race, with independent Eliot Cutler in a distant third.

Littlefield said former Sen. Olympia Snowe and her husband, former Gov. John McKernan, are among others lending their name to next week’s fundraiser as hosts.
