Sen. John Cleveland should be ashamed of his vote on LD 1240. He voted to restrict some military veterans from obtaining concealed weapons permits by increasing the minimum age for a permit from 18 to 21.
Also, he voted to create a new program to make it more difficult to access firearms courses while establishing “risk factors” in the home and the community. Other requirements included: getting a concealed weapons permit before buying firearms; a restriction on Mainers’ ability to sell their firearms (only through licensed dealers who charge substantial fees) with no system of determining their ownership; required firearm purchasers to pay a fee for brochures and take additional courses. Thankfully, Gov. LePage vetoed it.
Sen. Cleveland is out of touch with gun owners and military men and women. His record of promoting new gun laws is reason enough to elect Eric Brakey.
Candidate Brakey has consistently stated his opposition to gun control legislation.
