NEWTON, Mass. — Leanne LaRosa of Harrison has received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lasell College during commencement exercises in May.

LaRosa majored in applied math with secondary education.

NASHUA, N.H. — Magnolia Veronica Dixon of Avon was awarded the Dr. Jamison Gilder Hoff Leadership Medal at a Rivier University graduating student event in May.

The medal is presented to a student who, like Dr. Hoff, the former chair of the board of trustees, leaves Rivier with a legacy of leadership and service.

Dixon’s college career included many academic, leadership and service accolades. She graduated magna cum laude on May 10 with a Bachelor of Arts in history.

Dixon represented the Class of 2014 giving the undergraduate student speaker address at the commencement ceremony.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Esther Schlotterbeck of Auburn returned to the U.S on July 16 after having spent a year in Germany as a participant of the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals.

Schlotterbeck is affiliated with Macalester College, where she studied environmental studies. She took part in the 30th year of the CBYX program, which has provided over 1,700 Americans with this unique opportunity to gain cultural, theoretical and practical work experience in Germany since 1984. Schlotterbeck was selected as one of 75 participants nationwide for this competitive government-sponsored fellowship for young professionals between the ages of 18 and 24.

She began her year abroad with two months of intensive German language training at the Carl Duisberg Centrum in Cologne, then studied for a semester at the Humboldt Universitat Berlin.

Her year finished with a five-month internship with Allmende-Kontor in Berlin. Participants of the CBYX program complete internships in a variety of fields, according to their professional aspirations and previous academic and work experience. Participants also have the opportunity to live with a German host and learn about daily life from a German perspective.

CANTON, N.Y. — Thomas P. Faraday of Carrabassett Valley is participating in St. Lawrence University’s Study Abroad Program for the fall 2014 semester.

Faraday is a member of the Class of 2018. He attended Mount Abram High School. Faraday will take part in the London FYP study abroad program.

DANVILLE, Ky. — Noah Burgess of Phillips has enrolled this year at Centre College. The Class of 2018 is the largest incoming class in Centre’s history, setting records for size, academic strength, geographic reach and diversity.

Burgess is the son of Lori and Robert Burgess of Phillips and is a graduate of Home School.

Cam Kaubris is the son of Mr. Kaubris and Ms. McInnis-Kaubris of Rumford, and is a 2011 graduate of Mountain Valley High School. He is majoring in economics.

Jed Quint is the son of Ms. Quint and Dr. Hiss of Minot, and is a 2012 graduate of Poland Regional High School. He is majoring in economics.

Sadie James is the daughter of Ellen W. James of Avon, and is a 2013 graduate of Gould Academy. She is majoring in psychology.

JAs and RCs welcome first-year students and support returning students as they settle into residential life at Bates. These students will facilitate opportunities for social and intellectual engagement beyond the standard classroom experiences.
