NORWAY — Selectmen were informed recently that the three-month electric charges for the town’s new electric vehicle charging station will run $17.67.
The estimated yearly cost will be $198.98 if usage remains the same, Town Manager David Holt said.
The charging station was installed in July at a cost of $193.98 for materials. The idea was supported by many who hoped to draw more vehicles to the downtown business district.
An electric car owner told the board in June that there are approximately 150 electric cars in Maine and the number is growing. The website Plug Share shows a map of the world and pinpoints locations that have electric-car chargers. Norway would presumably be included on that map.
Holt told selectmen that the cost is minimal and the labor to install the station was free. It was done by fire Chief Dennis Yates, an electrician, who works for the town full time.
Holt said the station is used by several cars a week at least, according to what he has been told by those in the area.
