Ezra Stephens, ‘P. T. Barnum of Maine’
HEBRON — For its August program the Hebron Historical Society co-hosted with the Minot Historical Society two Maine authors, John Ford Sr. and Mark Nickerson, for their “Blue Lights and Funny Cider” presentation.
It featured colorful happenings during their careers as Maine game warden, sheriff and state trooper. The event was held at the West Minot Grange Hall and was preceded by a pot-luck supper. About 80 people attended.
At the Sept. 23 membership meeting the program will feature society director and local historian Ben Conant speaking on the history of Ezra Stephens of Woodstock, known in the mid to late 1800s as “The P. T. Barnum of Maine.”
The program will follow a short meeting beginning at 7 p.m. at the Hebron Town Office, 351 Paris Road. The public is invited.
