WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — The city of Waterville, the state and a private developer have worked out to a deal to share the $6 million cost of a proposed new interchange off Interstate 95 in town.

The agreement is up for approval by the City Council on Tuesday.

The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1uD0g7G ) reports that under the tentative deal’s terms, Trafton Properties Inc., which owns land in the area, would pay nearly $2 million to build the ramp system and would work to secure a similar amount from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

The state Transportation Department would provide almost $2 million.

The city would pay $500,000 to fix area streets.

Proponents say the interchange will ease congestion in other parts of town and spur economic development. Opponents worry about increased traffic and environmental damage.
