AUBURN — A Sunday evening fire that gutted the third floor of a home on Court Street remains under investigation.

According to Auburn Fire Department Captain Don Flanagan, the call received at 5:10 p.m. reported flames on the third floor of 340 Court Street.

Flanagan said the Auburn Police Department assisted in getting the four residents of the home and their pets out quickly and safely.

Lewiston Fire Department assisted on scene while New Gloucester, Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot assisted with station coverage, according to Flanagan.

Flannagan said as many as 21 personnel assisted at the scene that took only 20 minutes to knock down the flames. He credited the crew’s speed, “It’s tough dragging a hose all the way up to the third floor,” he said.

There were no reported injuries, Flannagan said of the fire that gutted the third floor and caused smoke and water damage on the first and second floor of the single-family house belonging to Tina Pulliam.

Flanagan estimated the damage was around $25,000 and said investigators remained on scene Sunday evening to determine the cause. The Red Cross is assisting the residents as Flanagan said it is unlikely they will be returning that night.

Court Street had to be shut down for about an hour for firefighting operations, Flanagan said, adding that he’s grateful it was 5:10 p.m. on a Sunday and not rush hour during the week.
