Annual Elks Soccer Shootout
The Annual Elks Shootout will be held on Sept. 20 at Lewiston High School soccer field from from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Elks Soccer Shoot Program consists of two different contests to challenge different skill levels with age brackets for both boys and girls. The “Five Goal Contest” consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17. Contestants kick from 15 to 18 feet out. This contest is intended for partcipants 7 and younger, and youths ages 8 and 9 (four brackets total).
The “Grid Goal Contest” consists of a full-size goal sectioned off so that points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections of the goal. This contest is intended for boys and girls age 10-11 and 12-13. (4 brackets total). Top scorers from each division will advance on to the district level with the opportunity to advance on to the state and regional levels.
Be sure to reserve your spot in the tournament. Registration is from 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. All entrants must bring proof of age (passport, school ID or birth certificate accepted) For more information or reservations, contact Ed McClure at 207-998-3167.
Andy Valley umpire’s meeting
The Andy Valley Umpire’s Association will hold their last meeting of the summer season Wednesday nightt at 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Armory. The agenda will be an overview of this past summer’s softball play, update on fall softball league games, banquet details and election of officers for 2015 season.
YMCA field hockey registration
The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is holding registration for the 2014 Youth Field Hockey. Current members or past participants may register over the phone by calling the Y at 795 4095. New participants must register in person at the Y at 62 Turner St. in Auburn.
The program has three divisions: Pee Wee for those in grades K & 2 (instructional), junior for those in grades 3 and 4, and intermediate for those in grades 5-8. All divisions practice Wednesday’s 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at the Auburn Middle School. The junior and intermediate Divisions also play on the weekends — day/date/time to be announced, as we try to secure scrimmages with surrounding towns (some travel will be required and parents will be responsible for transportation). If no scrimmages are scheduled for a particular weekend, the two divisions will meet at Auburn Middle School on Saturday for practice starting at 9 a.m.
The Y’s Youth Field Hockey Program runs for six weeks: Wednesday, Sept. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 18. Participants will receive the fundamentals of field hockey through a combination of skills, drills, group games, and scrimmages.
