RANGELEY — Police said a Massachusetts man is facing charges that he threw his girlfriend against a wall, hit her and stomped on her phone.

Sgt. Jared Austin arrested Richard F. Ranucci, 30, of Lexington, Mass., early Saturday morning on a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence assault, police Chief Dennis Leahy said Tuesday.

Ranucci was also issued a summons on a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

A conviction on either charge carries a jail sentence of up to 364 days.

Police were called to Moose Alley, a bowling alley, night club and restaurant on Main Street, at approximately 12:42 a.m. Saturday.

According to Leahy, a representative of the establishment told police that a woman who had been there earlier with her boyfriend returned and reported her boyfriend assaulted her. While Sgt. Austin was talking to the owner, a barefoot woman who was crying started walking toward him.

Austin interviewed her at the Police Station, where she told him she and Ranucci were staying at her parents’ vacation home not far from Moose Alley and went to Moose Alley and had drinks. She told police Ranucci was drinking heavily, Leahy said.

The couple returned to the house and she saw Ranucci on his phone. He had met some girls and they wanted to go back to Moose Alley with him, according to Austin’s report.

The girlfriend told police she wouldn’t allow Ranucci to drive her truck because he was intoxicated, Leahy said.

Ranucci threw her across the room, threw her into a wall and struck her with his hand. He kicked a sliding glass door and knocked it off its track and took her phone and stomped on it, Austin said.

The woman drove back to Moose Alley, he said.

She had a lump on her forehead, red marks on her neck close to her jaw line, cuts on both knees and red marks and bruises on her upper arms and back, Leahy said.

Austin went to the house, along with U.S. Border Patrol agents, and arrested Ranucci. He was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington, posted $500 cash bail and was released later Saturday. He is scheduled to appear Sept. 23 at a Farmington court, Leahy said.

Ranucci is on probation for an unrelated crime and lives in a halfway house in Massachusetts, Leahy said.

Damage at the home included drapes, a broken kitchen chair and broken curtain rod, Leahy said.
