A Lewiston woman claimed her missing parakeet at Lewiston police headquarters yesterday afternoon. So-Fro Fabrics Inc. will close its Auburn Mall store today after 10 years in business, but will keep open its branch in Lewiston, District Manager Eva Frost said. Frost would not say why the company is closing its Auburn store, nor why the decision had not been announced earlier. The store sells fabrics and other sewing supplies. Some of the store’s eight to 10 employees will be transferred to the company’s other stores, Frost said. The remaining workers’ prospects with the firm had not been decided, Frost added. Auburn Mall Manager Tiffany Jones said the mall will be looking for a tenant to occupy the space before Christmas, but said there were no definite candidates at this point. The vacancy created by So-Fro combined with the closing earlier this summer of Benoit’s will not upset plans to expand the mall, Jones said. “That’s just part of this business,” she said. “We’re not concerned in the least.”
