1955 – 2014

LEWISTON — Stephen Michael Dubois, 59, died Monday, Aug. 18, at his residence on Heather Drive in Lewiston. He was formerly of Rumford.

Born in Rumford on Feb. 8, 1955, he was the son of Eugene William and Winifred (McGonigal) Dubois. He attended Rumford schools and lived at Pineland Center, as well as in Durham, Portland, North Waterford and in Lewiston-Auburn for the past 30-plus years.

Stephen worked for Pathways in Auburn and the 7-Eleven in Lewiston. For the past 11 years, Stephen worked as a custodian at the John F. Murphy Homes central office at 800 Center St., in Auburn. He loved his job and his coworkers, who are mourning their loss.

Stephen was a friend to many people in the community, including the officers in both the Lewiston and Auburn police departments, who enjoyed his presence, fondly calling him “The Fonz.” Stephen was well-liked and respected by countless people.

He bowled in three leagues at Spare Time Recreation. For years, he volunteered at the balloon festivals, working in the souvenir booth with Morgan. Stephen loved seeing professional wrestling live with Bob or watching “a Pay-Per-View” with invited friends to enjoy food and fun with him. He loved music, especially The Beatles and the 1970s, and singing karaoke. He loved parties and get-togethers, and the holidays were especially important to him.

Stephen had a great sense of humor and enjoyed trivia. He kept up-to-the-minute with news on celebrities, sports figures, world news, etc., and shared that information by phone or by stopping you in your tracks to inform you of what’s happening.

Survivors include a sister, Karen Oak, of Dalton, Mass.; two nephews, Michael Oak of Burlington, Vt., and Andrew Oak of Columbia, Md.; the Adams girls and families, Benjamin Martin, Michelle Mazeroll, Tanya Howes, Dan Godin and Tom; and all his teammates and friends at Spare Time Recreation, Trina, Sharon, Mark, Keith, David, Bill and Dan, and countless more friends. Steve will be sadly missed by his coworkers at the John F. Murphy Homes.

Friends and relatives are invited to sign the online guest book and share memories with the family at www.meaderandson.com.
