BRUNSWICK — Service from Verizon Wireless phones to 911 and the police business lines was restored early Saturday.
“As of 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the third party company that processes 911 calls for parts of Maine confirmed that cellular calls to 911 were again being completed successfully for wireless carriers,” Michael Murphy, spokesperson for Verizon Wireless New England, said in a statement issued about 10 a.m. Saturday. “There was no issue with Verizon’s network, and other calls (that were not 911) remained unaffected during that period.”
Police verified that the problem has been corrected.
Brunswick police alerted residents on Friday night that calls placed from Verizon Wireless phones to 911 and the police business lines were not getting through, and encouraged people to contact them by phone with another carrier or by email.
A message posted on the Brunswick Police Department’s Facebook page attributed the connection problems to “a problem at Verizon Wireless and/or Fairpoint.”
A dispatcher confirmed just before 9 p.m. that the problem continued, although Verizon was aware of the issue and working to correct it.
