WEST PARIS — Ledgeview Living Center has agreed to begin repaying nearly  $25,000 in back taxes, interest and fees owed to the town.

The 81-bed assisted living facility is expected to pay an undisclosed amount in monthly installments starting in September, according to a deal struck with Town Manager John White.

The agreement appears to end a five-month effort by town officials to collect personal property taxes on equipment at the nursing home.

Wilday LLC, owner of Ledgeview Living Center on Route 26, owes the town $24,892 for equipment, machinery and other physical assets, White said.

According to White, the deal will also include an updated list of all personal property, which he said has not been changed since 1988. That list may be used by assessors to calculate the next tax cycle in 2015-16.

Business Manager Roger Wilday said the default has been been due to stalled Medicare reimbursement payments from the state. In April, Wilday said almost three-fourths of the facility’s residents are Medicare recipients, and the company was owed $150,000 from the state

Wilday said the state is still several months behind on payments.

“The state helped us enough that we should be able to get caught up,” he said.

Wilday LLC had $50.82 in unpaid taxes at the end of 2005, according to the town’s annual report. Every year thereafter, however, the company had an average annual unpaid balance of around $2,700, a sum which eventually amassed to about two percent the town’s municipal budget, White said previously.
