David Hoyt protects his father, Ralph, 88, from the rain as they tour the Bates College campus with his mother, Dorothy, 84, not pictured, on Wednesday in Lewiston. Ralph and Dorothy graduated from the college in 1951 and were married two weeks later. “We met in our freshman year and were engaged in our junior year,” said Dorothy, who now lives in Barnstable, N.Y., and who taught for one year in Lisbon. “That was normal back then, to get your ‘Mrs.’ degree.” The family is camping in Poland Spring but decided to visit the campus because of the rain.
