FRYEBURG — Acting police Chief Joshua Potvin said Cameron C. Henry, 20, of Fryeburg was charged July 9 with 16 counts of burglary of a motor vehicle.

The incidents occurred over the July 4 weekend.

Henry was arrested July 7 on one count of felony burglary and misdemeanor charges of theft, criminal mischief and refusing to submit to arrest, Potvin said. Henry was apprehended at the Jockey Cap Store at 116 Bridgton Road around 3:13 a.m. July 7 when a security alarm was tripped.

An officer reportedly found the store burglarized and the suspect preparing to flee on foot.

According to Potvin, officers were able to link the Jockey Cap burglary to a series of car burglaries on Bridgton Road, Lovewell Pond Road, Smith Street and other areas. Police said cars were largely ransacked and all were unlocked at the time.

“It’s all around good, collaborative police work,” Potvin said.

Police recovered some of the stolen electronics taken from the vehicles and are contacting owners.

“We are still processing evidence and investigating whether or not Henry acted alone. Additional arrests in the near future could be forthcoming,” Potvin said in a statement.

Potvin said Monday that the investigation is ongoing.

“Mr. Henry has taken responsibility for his conduct and stated that he is ashamed of his actions,” he said.

“For the many victims’ sake, I am pleased we were able to link the Jockey Cap burglary to the motor vehicle burglaries in a timely manner,” he said.
