LIVERMORE FALLS — The town manager and police chief are in the early stages of trying to develop a list of street lights in town that could either be removed or have lower-wattage bulbs placed in them.

The town has 194 lights and pays approximately $37,174.48 annually for them, Town Manager Kristal Flagg said Monday.

The idea is to try to remove some to save money.

The plan, she believes, is for her and police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. to take rides during the day to identify possible lights to be shut off. Steward and someone else would take rides at night to see the effect if they were removed.

“We will get the pole numbers of the lights we think can be removed or have lower-wattage bulbs put in them,” she said.

They would then bring a list to selectmen to review.

Once they get a list, she would form a committee to review the list in more depth.

She would like to have a couple selectmen, police representative, herself and maybe a couple of community members and other pertinent town officials to look at the list and go look at the lights, she said.

Flagg is going to update selectmen at their 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, meeting at the Town Office.
