Church lunch during Moxie Days

LISBON — Lisbon United Methodist Church will serve lunch during the Moxie Days festival on Saturday, July 12, at 14 School St.

Menu items include lobster or crab meat rolls, hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks and water. There will also be a baked goods table and yard sale.

The rolls will also be sold downtown along with Harmons clam cakes.

Lakeside OES meets July 8

WALES — Lakeside Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the Grange/Masonic Hall, 322 Centre Road.

Phillip M. Hubbard, past grand patron of Maine’s Grand Chapter, will do his informative and inspiring “Walking the Labyrinth” lecture.

There will be light refreshments after the meeting. The officers will be in colored gowns, tuxedos or dark suits.

La Rencontre ‘visits’ Switzerland

LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 10, at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St.

The center will be serving finger rolls (chicken, seafood or egg), potato and pasta salads, chips and watermelon. The cost of the meal is $8 per person.

After the meal, guests will have a “new look” inside Switzerland in a video introduced by Edmond Gay.

The center’s director of operations and food services, Gay will entertain guests with his video presentation of Switzerland, his home country. The Franco Center’s resident Swiss will offer an introduction to the film which explores the rivers, mountains and lakes of this small, but well-known, country in the heart of Europe.

Doors open at 10 a.m. La Rencontre is not restricted to French-speakers or even those of Franco descent. All are welcome.

Sabattus Summer Fest

SABATTUS — The Town of Sabattus will hold its eighth annual Sabattus Summer Fest for town residents from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Town Hall.

If the sun is shining, the picnic will be outdoors; if it’s raining it’ll move inside Town Hall. Residents will enjoy free barbecued burgers, hot dogs and all the fixings.

Music will once again be provided by Union Street Sound. There will be a hula hoop contest in addition to games for the kids. The Sabattus fire and police departments will show off their trucks.

Residents should bring a picnic blanket or chair and a big appetite.

Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Annual strawberry shortcake supper

MONMOUTH — The annual strawberry shortcake supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, at East Monmouth Church Vestry, Route 135, East Monmouth.

There will be homemade main dish salads, cole slaw, five kinds of baked beans, rolls, strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream, coffee and punch. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for 12 and under.

Buckfield Legion yard sale July 12

BUCKFIELD — The American Legion will hold its annual yard sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at the hall, 58 Morrill St.

There will be hot dogs and strawberry shortcake for sale.

Proceeds will benefit the projects of the post and auxiliary.

DURHAM — A Masonic bean supper will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Lodge on Route 136 across from the Durham River Park.

Cost is $7.50 for adults, $3 for children 5-12, free for children under 5. On the menu are baked beans, chop suey, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw, bread, pickles and homemade pies.

Chicken barbecue at AMVETS post

NEW GLOUCESTER — The first New Gloucester Veterans’ Monument Chicken Barbecue will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 12, beginning at noon at the Lunn Hunnewell AMVETS Post No. 6, 1095 Lewiston Road (Route 100).

The meal includes chicken, cole slaw, chips, iced tea, lemonade and Hodgman’s Frozen Custard. Tickets are $8 for 12 years and up and $4 for under 12 years. Meals will be served until the chickens have flown the coop.

Donations for Monmouth auction

MONMOUTH — An auction will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19, on the lawn beside The Vestry Store (beside the United Church) on Main Street. It opens at 4.

A light supper will be available for a small fee during the auction.

LEWISTON — Steven Dostie, executive director, has announced the winners of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society’s Annual Summer Raffle.

With more than $9,000 in tickets sales, the winners were: Ronald Tolini of Sabattus winning $500 cash; Connie LaVoie of Lewiston, $300; Polly Green of Brunswick, $200; and Danielle Pushard of Litchfield, $100.

New pre-K at Hebron Station School

HEBRON — Hebron Station School is seeking applications for 4-year-old children for a pre-K classroom.

Children who will be 4 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible to apply. This program is open to Hebron residents and is funded by MSAD 17, so there are no household income restrictions.

The full-day program meets every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to start the school year, then drops to Tuesday and Thursday mid-year. It will follow the district’s school calendar.

Interested parents should call Principal Melanie Ellsworth at 592-4174 for an application packet. Deadline for applications is July 18. If more than 13 children apply, there will be a lottery to determine who will be enrolled.
