NORWAY — Registration for the 2014 Norway Tri is nearly sold out; just a few more bib numbers remain for competitive procrastinators. This year’s tri, which will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, from the beach at Pennesseewassee Park, has attracted athletes from 17 states Maine to Washington, and Canada.

Proceeds will benefit the timber frame sugar house to be built at Roberts Farm Preserve this fall.

A USAT sanctioned sprint tri, the event includes a 1k swim on a triangular course from the beach; an 18k bike out-and-back up 118 and the Greenwood Road to the Richardson Hollow Road; and a 5k run that leaves from the park along the Lake Road to the Roberts Road and into the cool wooded trails of Roberts Farm Preserve and back to the finish line inside the park.

Lake Pennesseewassee boaters and Saturday morning Lake Store doughnut addicts should be aware that swimmers and their kayak support crew will be navigating a triangular section of the lake from 8 to 9 a.m.

From approximately 8:30 to 11 a.m., road traffic on 118 should use special caution between the Greenwood Road and the park entrance (where there will be bike traffic both directions) and to Roberts Road (where there will be a policeman stopping traffic for runners).

On Friday, July 11, Pennesseewassee Park parking area will be closed from 4 p.m. on Friday until noon on Saturday for the event. The boat launch and parking area will be closed Saturday until noon.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for the event should contact Lee at 739-2124. Kayakers, photographers and traffic control volunteers are still needed.

Parking is available only for competitors in the park; spectators should plan on carpooling and parking safely along the Ashton Road behind the Lake Store.
