AUGUSTA (AP) — A Thomaston man has been sentenced five years in prison for robbing a Waterville bank in February.

David Alvarez was also sentenced to three years’ probation after pleading guilty last week.

The Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1pGsY7M ) reported that the sentence includes an order to pay $140 restitution for a teller’s jacket Alvarez used to carry the money away. He told police it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to rob the bank, and he did not bring a bag.

He handed the teller a note and said he had a gun.

The 29-year-old Alvarez was arrested within hours of robbing the Bangor Savings Bank and all the money was recovered.

Alvarez’s attorney said her client “had taken full responsibility.”
