WELLS — A 1971 Corvette Stingray was found in a marsh Sunday evening, and the Massachusetts driver was arrested, police said.

The vehicle was found off Bourne Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, according to Wells police Lt. Gerald Congdon.

Congdon said the vehicle is valued at $20,000. It was almost completely submerged when it was found.

The man driving it, Philip Aleo, 56, of Massachusetts, was lifted off the vehicle by Wells firefighters, according to Congdon. He was not injured.

Police discovered there was a warrant for Aleo’s arrest for failing to pay fines. He was arrested on that charge and later released on $711.60 bail, the lieutenant said.

The vehicle, which is likely destroyed, has been removed from the marsh, Congdon said.
