AUBURN — The School Committee eliminated two teaching positions and cut a third to part time Wednesday night to meet the proposed $38.2 million school budget for next year.
Under the plan, Walton Elementary School and Edward Little High School each will lose a full-time teaching position. Both will be cut through attrition.
Land Lab teacher Jim Chandler will be reduced to half time. Earlier proposals had eliminated his job.
Superintendent Katy Grondin estimated the cuts would save the school system about $110,000.
The School Committee also created a full-time education technician position and agreed to pay for a full-time instructional coach to work with teachers. The instructional coach had been paid for with federal funds. Under the plan, the position will now be paid for through the school system’s general fund.
Voters still must approve the proposed budget. The referendum will be held Tuesday, June 10.
