LEWISTON — Easter at a head shop may be a far cry from tradition for most, but for Legal Peaces owners Vincent and Shanon Gogan, their “4/20” grand opening was a success.

It’s been nearly four decades since Bob Marley called to “Legalize It” and with marijuana’s rapid legalization across the country, if only in a medical sense, businesses that capitalize on its use have become more mainstream.

“Things have just been flying off my shelves,” Shanon Gogan said, since the Lisbon Street stores soft opening two weeks ago.

Gogan said her prices are lower than her local competition, saying, “People just can’t believe it.” She attributes Legal Peaces’ low prices to her and Vincent’s relentless efforts to source locally.

Gogan said the couple recently returned from the Home Grown Maine medical marijuana trade show in Bangor, where they were able to connect with Maine glass blowers.

With an inventory of 100 percent American-made marijuana accessories and a growing supply of Maine-made glass items, Gogan said Legal Peaces is doing their part for the Maine economy.

“You’ve got to network with people in Maine,” Vincent Gogan said. A Lewiston High School graduate, Gogan said he has been dreaming of opening his own smoke shop since he was in school.

Now, the 26-year-old Gogan is making a go of his first business as well as working as a licensed medical marijuana care giver.

The Gogans say they put quality above all else to keep their customers coming back.

“I’m not wasting my money on cheap products, and neither should my customers,” Vincent Gogan said.

In June, the Gogans will be branching out into clothing, carrying Seedless apparel — marijuana-themed clothing and accessories.

Don’t expect the kiddies to be seen browsing the shelves, though. Shanon Gogan said she vigorously cards customers. If you’re not 18 or carrying a patient card for medical marijuana, you’re not welcome.
