AUGUSTA (AP) — An Augusta man has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for growing marijuana inside the security fence at Augusta State Airport.
Marlon Cloutier was also sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to four years of probation.
The Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1fJxmsr ) reported that the 48-year-old Cloutier pleaded guilty in February 2013 to charges including conspiracy to manufacture 100 or more marijuana plants.
He was arrested after a surveillance camera captured him tending the plot that had been discovered earlier. Authorities say they found 148 marijuana plants.
Airport authorities said the marijuana was heavily screened by pine trees and barely visible.
Cloutier’s lawyer said his client was driven by the need for money to pay restitution to victims of arson for which he had been convicted.
