OXFORD — Police said a Lewiston woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after she pointed a loaded handgun at another woman in a road rage incident.

Sandra L. Lambert, 56, faces a charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. According to Oxford County Jail officials, she was released around 9 p.m. Wednesday on $300 cash bail.

The confrontation occurred shortly after 3 p.m. on Route 121 near the Mechanic Falls town line, according to Oxford police Sgt. Alan Coffin. Coffin said Lambert and the other woman involved, Courtney Brackett, 24, of Norway, called police to report the incident.

Police are unclear exactly what touched off the argument, but Coffin said it could be a case of tailgating or something similar.

The two women pulled their vehicles to the side of the road to “have words,” and Lambert pointed a .38-caliber Ruger pistol at Brackett, Coffin said. The entire incident lasted less than 10 minutes, and Lambert may have pulled the gun seconds after stopping next to Brackett, he said.

Brackett’s 5-year-old daughter was in the back seat of her car when Lambert pulled the gun, Coffin said.

Police interviewed both women at separate locations — Brackett near where the incident occurred and Lambert on Lewiston Street in Mechanic Falls, Coffin said.

A .38-caliber pistol was confiscated from Lambert at the time of her arrest, but she did not admit pointing a weapon at Brackett, Coffin said. Lambert had a concealed weapons permit for the gun, he said.

Coffin said the investigation is continuing.
