Gould to speak to AHS  

AUBURN — Androscoggin Historical Society will host Deborah Gould at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, at the society’s headquarters in the Androscoggin County Courthouse.

Gould will read selections from her social history novel, “The Eastern: The Early Years.” In the early 1800s, five families settle along the Eastern River in Pittston.

There is no admission charge; donations are accepted.

Lisbon kindergarten screenings, registrations set

LISBON — Lisbon School Department will hold a parent information night and kindergarten screenings and registration.

Parent Information Night will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, at the Lisbon Community School cafetorium, 33 Mill St.

Kindergarten screenings are set for May 15, 16 and 17 at the school. Appointments may be scheduled by contacting 207-353-4132. 

An official birth certificate, Social Security number, current immunization record and documentation of a recent (within one year) physical examination by a doctor or a nurse practitioner must be presented at registration.

State and federal laws require that incoming kindergarten students be screened for possible disabilities.

L&A Veterans seeks volunteers

LEWISTON — Lewiston & Auburn Veterans Council is seeking volunteers to assist at its Memorial Day Parade, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27, beginning at Kennedy Park.

Volunteers are also being sought to assist in placing flags on veteran graves at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 28, at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

All organizations are welcome.

Parish Guild seeks donations

AUBURN — The Parish Guild at the High Street Congregational Church is seeking donations for its annual Indoor Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at 106 Pleasant St.

Donations of gently used items will be accepted up to the day of the sale (no clothing, furniture, or electronics). All items are priced to sell.

There will be coffee and refreshments available for sale.

Table rentals are $20 each and all proceeds benefit the High Street Parish Guild.

Franco Center maple sugar trip to Québec

LEWISTON — Mitch Thomas, executive director at the Dolard and Priscilla Gendron Franco Center, announced that the annual maple sugar day trip to Lac-Mégantic, Québec, has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 30. The original date was moved due to the April 1 snowstorm.

The public is invited to join those already signed up for the 12-hour tour. Space is limited, so early signup is suggested.

Departure by bus from the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St., will be at 6:45 a.m. Coffee and breakfast snacks will be offered, starting at 6:15 a.m. The return time is expected to be by 6:45 p.m. the same day. There will be brief stops to tour the newly completed Lac-Mégantic Train Disaster Memorial and for shopping in the village.

The cost of the trip, which includes transportation, the home-cooked lunch, live local music at the Cabane à Sucre and all-day parking at the Center, is $62 per person. A valid passport is needed for travel to Canada.
